Enhancing Your Garden With Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor lighting is a great addition to your garden. It allows you to take your outdoor space to the next level and can create a totally different look and feel by night.  

Whether you’re entertaining guests or just relaxing, lighting can provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere. 

Here are some of our top tips for using light in your garden: 

Day and night  

It may sound obvious but when it comes to working with outdoor lighting, it’s important that you think about what your garden looks like both in the day and at night.  When placing any lights, make sure you are considering what you want to keep lit and what you want to keep in the dark when night falls.  

Placement 

You can create very different effects in your garden based on where you place your lights. Lights at lower levels of the garden, i.e. in the ground, can create striking silhouettes whereas lights placed at higher levels create an overhead glow around objects and features.  Don’t be afraid to experiment with different placements until you’re happy and perhaps try layering your lights at multiple different levels.

Once you’re happy with the placement of your lights, make sure to hide any cables. Doing so gives a neater look and also helps protect your lights from damage. 

Navigating the dark

Creating mood and atmosphere in your garden is important, but equally important is being able to see where you are going and what you are doing in the dark! You want your lights to guide you through your garden and help you see whilst still being subtle. 

Mix it up
